Metropolitan Museum of Art Modern Times: British Prints, 1913–1939
This richly illustrated volume reintroduces rare print works from this private collection into the narrative of modernism, demonstrating their relationship to other movements such as Cubism, Futurism, and Constructivism.
The artworks are placed cinematically to carry the reader from the cover into the heart of the book with a blend of grace, dynamic energy, and movement. Many of the prints have an almost dizzying motion with crescent-like shapes that take the reader on a serpentine journey. Large details woven throughout the book layout reveal the rich, colorful variations created by the artists’ unique printing and proofing process. The opening sequence represents as many of the artists in the book as possible, with special attention paid to highlighting the many women artists in this group.
